Bank of Townsend
This year, your child is participating in a classroom economy project. I often tell my students going to school is their job, and they should be paid for it. Our classroom economy is based on that premise. Every student in our room has a bank. During the first few days of school, every bank contained 70¢. Students can add money to their banks by displaying good behavior, completing homework, and achieving academic goals. Students must give up money from their banks if they fail to complete assignments, do not follow class expectations, or do not return homework or homework folders.
Every Friday, we will have a Fun Friday activity. Possible Fun Friday activities include watching a movie (G-rated only), free time in the room, or an extra recess. Students must have at least 70¢ in their banks to participate in Fun Friday. If a student does not have 70¢ in his or her bank, then he or she will need to sit out of Fun Friday. If a student has more than 70¢, then he or she will be able to purchase a Classroom Coupon or a small prize. Classroom coupons can be redeemed for privileges such as no homework or sitting next to a friend for a week.
On Friday, every student will count his or her bank and record the total on a “Bank Statement.” This will go home on Friday so that you know how your child’s week went. Please take some time to look over your child’s Bank Statement every Friday. Our classroom economy will teach math skills and reinforce good behavior. Attached is a sample copy of the Bank Statement.
We always need items for our classroom store. Possible items include microwave popcorn, juice boxes, small toys (you can find these in Happy Meals, at the dollar stores, or in the Dollar Spot at Target), fun erasers and pencils. If you have any questions about the Bank of Townsend, please let me know. Thank you for your help and thank for all you do to help your child succeed!
